We had a great time at our latest meet at Waterland Organics Farm. Our onions are really putting on the pounds now, and as the days get shorter they will start to bulk up quickly. Just looking back to some of our first posts its easy to see how much our crop has grown!

Alas, the weeds have also grown…thistles, charlock and persicaria (Redshank)-but we got straight onto them with our new hoes. And new volunteers! This time round we had a few of the farm’s boxscheme customers and a visiting student from Mexico!
There was even time to plant out an acre or so of autumn cabbages next to our onion field.

This is a volunteers eye view when planting out young cabbage plants on the back of the tractor-drawn planter. See our onion planting blog post for a video of this machine in action.

Over another delicious lunch, we recorded some soundbites for Cambridge 105FM, with onion volunteer and 105FM Director Axel Minet. it was great fun, and we’re to be featured on the station’s Flavour program on Sat 16th July, 12- 1pm! Thanks guys! Here’s a link to download the podcast in case you missed it.
Remember, we are always on the lookout for new volunteers. Just get in touch if you want a piece of the action!
Another big thanks to Axel for the great photos in this blogpost!
Until next time,
Helen
