Look at this great wind turbine that the Transition Cambridge Energy Group made! Thanks to the CropSharers today, it’s now up at the farm and powering the electric fence around the chickens, keeping them safe from sneaky foxes.

CropSharers were needed today to pull the wind turbine up into its final position by the chicken fence we helped to put up earlier in the year.

Checking the wind turbine is level! No wonky turbines here.

And to prove that it stayed up after our handiwork, here is a video Farmer Paul took the next day of it happily spinning and making loads of electricity! Farmer Paul doesn’t mess about, he’s now on YouTube (Fendirtfarmer) posting all sorts of videos from around the farm, and don’t forget you can follow him on twitter @waterlanderman.

We collected the eggs, and found a new born chick under one of the broody hens that we didn’t manage to photo, will try next time!

However, Milly the lamb seems to have taken an interest in the chickens too, as Farmer Paul’s YouTube video shows…

I’ll bet you anything that this goes on behind the closed door of the chicken coop on this farm!

Farmer Paul’s HenShare chickens came from a good local breeder, CropSharers helped with the delivery earlier this year. If you’re thinking about getting chickens for your garden or allotment rehoming a battery hen is great way to give the hard working girls a rest, get great eggs and they make really tame pets too. Here’s my ex battery chickens with all their feathers grown back, up to their usual tricks!

In other exciting news CropSharer Julie-Ann is bring farming to her windowsill. Having no garden has not stopped her from growing on the spare strawberry plants and onion sets given to all CropSharers earlier in the year. Julie-Ann is growing the onion sets for leaves, and using them like chives. Great idea and yummy too! Thanks for the photos Julie-Ann.
