Finally the time has come to harvest our carefully grown onion crop. When we arrived at the farm, we could see all the onions we laid out on the soil two weeks ago were dried out, excellent!

Then it was up to us to remove most of the dead leaves and bag the onions into dayglow orange nets.  We even had time for a few juggling tricks- thanks for the entertainment Isabel!

Our marvelous harvest was then piled on the tractor trailer and taken to our storage shed on the farm. We had nearly ten trailer loads throughout the day, and a total yield of about 6 Tonnes from our half acre field. Go us!

To recognise our achievements and celebrate the harvest, we had a party lasting well into the evening, with BBQ and bonfire, lots of fun!

A massive thanks to Paul and Doreen for opening their gates to us all, and for all the volunteers who have worked so hard throughout the season! Congratulations everyone!

Cropshare will be at the Food, Garden and Produce Fair, Parkers Piece, Cambridge Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th September at the Transition Cambridge stall. Come along to say hello and have a go at braiding your own onions with us.

Cropshare will return in 2012… watch this space!

Best,

Helen
